Asheville, Apr 22, 2024 - The Sustainability Department has called on residents to participate in Earth Day celebrations and activities throughout Earth Month to make a positive impact on the environment. The department highlighted various ways for individuals to get involved in creating a cleaner and greener Asheville.

"Earth Day is today, but if it snuck up on you there’s a whole nine days left in Earth Month to have fun with earth-focused events!" encouraged the Sustainability Department. They recommended checking out the Asheville Greenworks calendar for opportunities to join neighborhood cleanups and tree nursery workdays.

Additionally, residents were urged to engage with Bountiful Cities by attending workshops or participating in community garden workdays. The department emphasized the importance of environmental initiatives such as the Electrify Asheville Buncombe initiative to save money and reduce carbon footprints.

"Review and take action on energy saving ideas for your home today!" suggested the Sustainability Department, pointing residents towards resources like the Green Built Alliance for inspiration on reducing energy consumption.

To address food waste, the Sustainability Department promoted the "Taste it Don’t Waste it" chef’s challenge and encouraged residents to participate in the Less Plastic Asheville Challenge to reduce waste and win prizes.

"There are many ways to reduce waste, like buying the right amount of food or using reusable bags, and when we do make trash, let’s commit to putting it where it belongs to preserve and protect our environment and natural resources," emphasized the Sustainability Department.

Residents were encouraged to explore various activities and initiatives to contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly Asheville during Earth Month.
